At the core of MKC-technology lies the Contact Potential Difference (CPD) — a physical phenomenon that arises when two different materials come into contact.
Every material has an intrinsic work function: the minimum energy required to remove an electron from its surface. When two materials with different work functions touch, electrons flow from the material with the lower work function to the one with the higher work function until equilibrium is reached.
That equilibrium creates an electric field at the interface — the measurable contact potential difference. WZ chips harness exactly this effect to shift a component’s elastic modulus, and with it its natural frequency, without altering its mass or mechanical properties.
